Sleep – it's a hard thing to do.
The media has taken notice that people cannot sleep. Sleep is the cause of accidents, overeating, sickness, depression, etc. For those of you who do not sleep, I do not think you need the media or a doctor, or anyone to tell you that you need sleep to stay healthy. Your body requires it and yet you cannot sleep and boy, does that stink!
So why can't people sleep nowadays? I for one think that the amount of information we are given during our waking hours takes a toll on our processing. What about the computer, or Ipads? Are you addicted? Can't put them down? I know that when I turn out my lights, there is a strange bluish glowing light coming from my boys' rooms and it can be like that for hours. They do not want to miss a thing! We are in the age of information and we are stressed out!
How do you get to sleep?
The first thing you need to look at is your routine. Like most people, you do the same thing every night. You sleep in the same starting position, you toss or turn, you have the TV on or are reading your book or even worse, reading stuff for work! You might lie in bed thinking about everything you need to do for the next day, week or year—and you wonder why you can't sleep? Something has to change and that is you and your behavior.
Now change your routine!
If you really want to sleep, change the way you go about it. If you are the type of person who thinks about everything that needs to be done the next day, write it down and let it go. If you worry about your problems, give them up to GOD, he's up all night anyway. If you don't believe in GOD, give it up to the universe. Don't watch the news before you go to bed. You can catch up in the morning, plus it will mean you go to bed thinking about all the bad things happening in the world. Instead, watch a comedy. Listen to music; have a cup of soothing tea. Change it up and you will change your reactions.
Give yourself permission to sleep.
You might find this funny, but think about it. Do you give yourself permission to do other things? Why not give yourself permission to sleep? What do you have to lose?
So close your eyes, dream of your favorite place to visit or a place you want to see, let your mind go…drifting, floating…and go to sleep!
Enjoy your life, enjoy you dreams and have a great night's sleep!
